Monthly Community Recap - May

May Recap.... A Month to Celebrate!!!

The month of May was full of festivities as The Californian celebrated Cinco de Mayo with authentic food, live mariachis and margaritas. The same day we were proud to name Dietary member Fernando Valadez Employee of the Year. Fernando has been with us for three years and is a valued member of The Californian family. Congratulations, Fernando!!! We also honored our country’s heroes during our annual Memorial Day Service that was held  on Friday May 28th. Speakers included Woodland mayor Skip Davies & Woodland Police chief Carey Sullivan. But it was truly an honor to hear the words from Edith Roberts, whose husband was the 1st cadet in the famous Tuskegee Airman Corps…Music was provided by the one  & only Clarence van Hook.  After those moving words, all those in attendance stayed for a wide spread buffet of food prepared by the Dietary Department. Well…May has come and gone and it was a month truly to celebrate. But don’t take our words for it…Drop by and take a tour….see you all next month…

FOOD FOR THOUGHT....

We all know strawberries are delicious, but they are also nutritious, and ideally should be a part of everyone’s daily diet. You’ll enjoy some health advantages by eating strawberries regularly, and the best part is strawberries are one of the most delicious fruits. The USDA recommends that every American eat at least five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily, but unfortunately, most people don’t even come close to that. Adding fresh strawberries to your diet, whether they are in salads, smoothies or on their own, is a great way to get the servings of fruit you need for a well-rounded body and a healthy immune system. The Californian is way ahead of the game. You will see strawberries in with our delicious meals, or dipped in chocolate at our Happy Hour events on Fridays. Be sure to try these yummy strawberries that are brought fresh to us by Produce Express
